THE GARDEN BOOK
written & bound by Alex Appella

A book of poems from 2001, the year we returned to Argentina.
HARD-BACK LIMITED EDITION OF 10 NUMBERED COPIES.

A series of poems from life within the chaos of Argentina. As my vegetable garden grows, I watch inside and I watch outside and these are the words found in my sierra town, in the day, in this country tumbling through a nervous breakdown.

About the binding:
This collection of poems was originally available in a simple stab bound binding. In revisiting the collection, I realized I wanted to re-bind these books in a more gracious design that gave ample space to each poem. The vertical format of the book is a play on the usual, and the unusual. Reinforced perfect binding, case bound.
23 pages.
6 x 12 inches
Pages are of 120 gram textured cream paper.
Printed on an Epson Stylus Ink Jet printer.
Photos from my garden inlaid on the covers vary from book to book.
Each book housed in a card-stock slip cover:

Sample:

November
heat thickens to 9 1/2 months overdue
the sun suddenly a tyrant mother
pulling clouds and suspense to her
in wild swings of her apron
that flip the pressure over
and heave the willows through wild choruses
as would shatter a ballet into tears.
