BY PLACING AN ORDER WITH TRANSIENT BOOKS, YOU AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING:
Overall, Transient Books is a team of good folks functioning on good faith that follow through with their word and mean no harm. The policies outlined below are the usual muckity-muck one has to declare in case any disputes arise. Luckily, since 2001 when this web site was initiated, Transient Books has had no disputes, mud throwing or threats with or from clients. Transient Books is proud of that. However, should any nastiness occur, Transient Books will refer to the policies below as their defense.
PLEASE READ the Stuff We End Up Explaining from Time to Time BEFORE PAYING FOR YOUR ORDER.
REFUND POLICY
CUSTOM BOUND ITEMS:
Transient Books does not offer refunds on custom bound items UNLESS they are lost in the mail. The few times there has been a problem with custom bound items, we have always worked to find a compromise or a solution that works for the client, within reason. Or, in extreme circumstances, we request that the disputed book is shipped back to our Oregon address and we issue a refund for the book's cost to the client, not including shipping.
ARTISTS' BOOKS:
All sales are final, unless items are lost in the mail. If the items were shipped via insured mail, Transient Books will replace the lost goods.
SHIPPING DISCLAIMER:
Transient Books only guarantees the safe arrival of books that are shipped INSURED. We do not replace un-insured items that are lost in the mail. After all the effort Transient Books put into making each and every book, we are more than glad to replace INSURED books should they suffer in transit. However, we no longer replace UN-INSURED books at our own expense. Lost items are few and far between, but they do occur.
CUSTOMS
Ahh, our friends the customs agents. Unpredictable folk. We make about 12 shipments a year to our US distributor, sometimes
more, and each shipment can have dozens of different client orders. These shipments almost always arrive in 2 or 3 days to
Oregon. It’s pretty outstanding. I want to clarify though, that over the years, there have been times when the shipment takes 4 or 5
days, and recently 7 days, to arrive. It’s harrowing. There’s nothing we can do about it. When there is a delay between Argentina
and Oregon, it is usually because customs has decided to hold up the boxes. Only one book has ever been lost. About 3 times a
year, though, customs decides to destroy a book by slicing it open with an X-acto knife. Considering we make hundreds of items a
year, it’s not such a bad percentage. But it’s still very upsetting. When customs destroys items that travel between Argentina
and our US distributor via UPS, we remake it free of charge for the client, unless a refund is preferred.
FOR THOSE WHO LIVE ABROAD:
If you live abroad (outside the US) and customs in your country damages a book we have shipped to you from Oregon, we do not
take responsibility. Luckily, this has never happened. Also, if customs fees or import taxes are incurred on your end, we do not
take responsibility. We ship regularly to Europe, Canada, Australia and Hong Kong. We declare a minimum value, but still some
countries at random decide to charge an import tax. This is unpredictable, and we hope it doesn’t happen to you. Items almost
always arrive in about 8 days when shipped to you from the US. I can’t remember a time it’s taken longer.
