7 x 7 inch book of poems. Navy blue cover.
9 x 6 inches, custom cook book and blank journal housed in hard back slip cover. Burgundy, black and dark moss green covers.
8 x 6 inches, novels. Pale moss green and smoke blue covers.

Custom Bound Books: We utilize a wide variety of binding styles to produce elegant, hardback, high quality custom bound books. We can bind anything from novels, to thesis, poetry books, blogs, email correspondence, recipe books, memoirs--the options are truly endless. The binding style used depends on your budget and/or on the book's thickness. For more in depth description, read below. To place your order, scroll down or simply email us with your ideas/needs.

No matter which binding style best suits your project:
--You choose the color of the Cover Paper and the Spine Canvas.
--Title and/or images can be either be inlaid or printed directly onto the cover paper.
--Ribbon Page Markers optional.
--Page Paper: We have a variety of papers available for the pages. Our standards are white or cream, 90 gm, no texture. However, feel free to consult other weights and textures.
--Deckled (hand-torn) fore edges are also an option. See below.

EXPLANATIONS OF THE HARDBACK BINDING STYLES WE GENERALLY USE:
1. REINFORCED PERFECT BINDING
The Reinforced Perfect Binding looks exactly like the Flat Back Binding but the binding process underneath (not seen) is different. In the Reinforced Perfect Binding, the book block is made up of a stack of loose sheets (not folded sections), and bound using reinforced glue and string. It is a durable binding, but the craftsmanship is less involved and the pages do not lie as flat when opened as the Flat Back Binding. This hard-back binding style works best for books up to about 80 sheets/160 pages.

2. FLAT BACK BINDING- for elegant, flat spined books.
This hard-back binding style works best for books up to about 80 sheets/160 pages.

Once the book block is formatted, printed, and folded into sections it is sewn onto linen tapes, the spine reinforced, and then attached to the cover.

3. TIGHT BACK BINDING- for thicker, rounded-spine books.
This hard-back binding style is best for thicker texts (100+ sheets/200+ pages).

Spine is rounded, and ready to be reinforced.
Reinforced Spine, prior to attaching to covers.
Once the book block is formatted, printed, and folded into sections, the sections are sewn together over recessed cords. The stitches cannot be seen in the finished book, but they run pristinely up and down the spine, through the sections, over the recessed cords. The book spine is glued, rounded by hand, and reinforced with mull (a binding gauze). The book block is then firmly attached to the covers.

FORMATTING & PRINTING THE CONTENT

REINFORCED PERFECT BINDING: The book block (the pages of the book) is made up of a stack of loose sheets. Each loose sheet is two pages of the book, printed front and back.
--If you are not familiar with desktop publishing, but you are interested in this binding style, we can format and print your content for you. Price depends on the complexity of the job. E-mail us to consult prices and options.

FLAT BACK & TIGHT BACK BINDINGS:
The book block (the pages of the book) is made up of folded sections. Each folded section has 3 to 6 sheets of paper, folded in half. Each folded sheet of paper is 4 pages of the book.
--If you are not familiar with desktop publishing, but you are interested in this binding style, we can format your content for you so that it can be folded and bound in sections.
--If you are familiar with desktop publishing, and can format your content in the appropriate sections (or booklets as some programs call them), we can send you our specs for binding pre-formatted and pre-printed material (margins, number of pages in each section/booklet, etc).

DECKLED EDGES are also an option (The outside edge of the book block is hand-torn)
